COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

At Chateau Davell Boutique Winery, we practice organic farming, and focus on sustainability in all aspects of our business. We are currently one of the only wineries in El Dorado County to practice exclusively organic and biodynamic farming. In fact, our family-run winery’s commitment to sustainability spans the entire winemaking process. We never use pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers of any kind in our farming. Our sheep and chickens naturally manage weeds and pests, while fertilizing the soil. Biodynamic methods, such as cover cropping, crop rotation and insectaries are used to boost the fertility of the soil and help the vines naturally fight pests and produce healthy crops. As Owner/Winemaker Eric Hays says, “We let the grapes develop into wine naturally with as little intervention as possible.” Solar energy powers the winery, and we decrease our carbon footprint by hand-processing our grapes into wine, at every step from picking to bottling and labeling. Wine labels, packaging and office supplies are all recycled 100% PCW (post-consumer waste), corks are FSC certified (made from sustainably farmed forests) and bottles are made locally in Northern CA.
